5 THINGS I WOULD TELL MY YOUNGER SELF.
I came across a quote last week that got me thinking. The quote read ‘if the version of you from 5 years ago could see you right now, they would be so proud – keep going’. It is a natural human trait to constantly seek the ‘next thing’, whether it be a work goal, a new PB in the gym, finding your dream home or meeting your soul mate. There is nothing wrong with that at all, goal setting is a driving force that inspires many of us. Though, in the time we spend seeking, we really should be celebrating. Celebrating where we are in the present moment, because we are all a constant work in progress and the journey is plays the biggest part in the success. That’s where the real magic lives and it deserves to be revelled in. This quote brought me back to a version of myself from five years ago, to the point where I jotted down 5 things that I wish I could tell my younger self. That scared, anxiety riddled soul that was fuelled with crippling self-doubt self that really needed to hear these 5 little things.
1. Celebrate progress, no matter how big or small.
2. Focus on one thing at a time, even if that is just getting out of bed that day.
3. Take the help when it’s offered.
4. Follow your gut feelings, they’re guardian angels.
5. If it’s not a f*ck yes, it’s a no.
I invite you all to practice this little exercise. To slow down and reflect on who you are now versus who you were 5 years ago. How did she feel back then versus now? Where was she living, working, who was she hanging out with? Reflect on the wins and the losses along the way. Write down 1-2 things you would tell your younger self and place is somewhere you can see regularly enough as a reminder to celebrate all that you are today.
I love you all,
Alexz.
