How did you get into the beauty industry and what led you to create your brand Sabbia Co?
I have been passionate about health and wellness since completing my Yoga and Pilates training 10 years ago. It wasn’t until I came off contraception in my early 20’s that I started to struggle with my skin and post-pill acne. At the time I felt like I had tried every supplement and skincare brand but nothing would clear my skin, this is when I started to study Chinese Medicine to understand what was going on in my body and how I could heal it naturally. Once I understood how I could heal my skin I became passionate about helping others heal theirs, this led me to study Cosmetic Chemistry and then launch Sabbia Co in 2019. A skincare brand that bridges the gap between Cosmetic Science and Plant Based Medicine to create results-driven skincare that’s better for our health and the planet.
What is your favourite product from your collection & why?
I couldn’t live without our Core Skin Kit, it has our 4 best-selling products that work together to heal the skin barrier which is often the cause of so many skin concerns like acne, congestion, redness, dryness, sensitivity and uneven skin texture. The hero product would have to be the Collagen C Serum, a 4-in-1 facial serum to brighten, hydrate, and boost collagen and elastin. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Marine Seaweed Collagen, and Vitamin C derived from Kakadu and Davidson Plum. That also doubles as an under-eye treatment for dark puffy circles.
For those that are new to the world of clean skincare, where and how you suggest starting?
I always recommend keeping a list of products you want to swap to and then when you run out of what you are using you can start replacing with cleaner products, this eliminates wastage and confusion about where to start.
Find someone you trust and educate yourself, there is so much misinformation and DIY skincare on social media which is creating more impaired skin barriers. There are incredible apps like YUKA that scan product barcodes to help you understand the ingredients and what is best for your health. Top tips for good skin health when exercising?
Cleansing is key! But you can overdo it. If you exercise in the morning wake up, water rinse your face (there is no need to cleanse first thing unless you have been sweating) apply your sunscreen if you are exercising outside. Once you finish you workout then use your cleanser to remove sweat and sunscreen, follow with your daily skincare routine.
In summer its common to sweat more, especially around our hairline. Be mindful of make sure you are cleansing in this area and washing your hair regularly as the oils can transfer to your face and cause breakouts.
Your favourite thing about owning a business?
I love helping people find their confidence again whiling protecting their health and planet. A big mission at Sabbia Co is to educate on wellness and self love, we do this through recipes, meditations, mindfulness and by partnering with like minded brands like HUSTL. When we start to feel better about ourselves as a whole being we can’t help but show up with a natural glow and confidence.
